The Challenge of Winter

This time of year we tend to get distracted with all of the holiday festivities and preparations. However, it is important not to forget to take care of our homes. Winter is the most challenging season for homeowners. As the temperature drops, we tend to use our furnaces more and more. On cold evenings we might even light a fire in our fireplace, especially if we are entertaining. It gets dark earlier so we use more electricity. And then there is the rain...

Water can be one of the most damaging elements for a home. Not only can water damage the structural members of the home, but moisture can also provide a breeding grounds for mold, with potential health consequences.

I have prepared a series of articles that are intended to guide you through some of the most important and most basic home maintenance projects for this time of year. If you would like to see additional articles on a topic that is not included here, please contact me and I will try to provide the information you have requested.

Home Maintenance Tip:

Check all electric outlets for loose-fitting plugs. These can cause overheating and, potentially, a fire. If defective, they should be replaced by a qualified repair person. If you would like a referral, you may send an email to Lmercer@Lmercer.com, or call me at 650-752-0756.
